Guided visualisations are a fantastic way to relive the stress and the pressure of a hectic life, are invaluable for spiritual practice and can be used just for the fun experience that they produce. Guided visualisations will take you places you have never been before and will allow you to create wonderful worlds that are highly personal and unique.
If you have a specific spiritual practice that you are doing, then you will probably already have a guided visualisation that you use; if not, then you will probably have a set of images or even a panthepn of gods and goddesses that will mean something to you. This is important, for there is little point in creating a wonderful landscape and filling it with imagery that you think should be there. Guided visualisations are about liberation and since there are no rules, you can create the world and then environment that you want.
It is important to do more than just imagine the scenario; you really need to get into the experience. For example, if your guided visualisation involves a deserted beach then you could, perhaps, play a CD of ocean sounds. Perhaps there is a scent that you associate with tropical islands (automatically the writer can smell coconut!). There may be a texture, such as toweling or coconut matting. This can all be gathered together before the guided visualisation starts and when joined together, these elements can give you a real feel for the place you are visiting in your mind.
Whatever place you create for yourself, keep it quiet and tell no one. Firstly, by telling people you run the risk of the ‘spoilers’ telling you its meaningless or poking fun at you. Another reason to keep silent is that often our experiences cannot be put into words and you end up diluting the experience as you talk about it. So let your guided visualisation be sacred and private.
The great thing about introducing elements such as scent and sound is that when you experience these elements outside of the guided visualisation, you will be transported to that lovely sense of calm and tranquility; this is a wonderfully private matter that only you will know about.
The more elaborate the guided visualisation, the more elements you can introduce. You can have a place for healing, a temple for asking questions and so on. At first, it may seem like pure imagination but as you use the guided visualisation and it becomes natural, then you will discover amazing benefits to your life here on earth.
