This is a list of reasons to become, or remain, self-employed. It can be used if you are thinking about self-employment or if you need to remember why you no longer work for someone else!
1) You’re the boss!
As obvious as this may seem, it should never be overlooked. All those creative ideas, all that passion it is all there for you to use. You no longer have to run an idea by someone who is not interested; you are the boss.
2) Pride in your work
You can sit back, look at your creation, and pat yourself on the back. As long as you take responsibility for those moments when things do not go according to plan, then you can enjoy the satisfaction of watching your own ideas become reality.
3) Freedom
You work hard as a self-employed person, very hard. Often you will do more hours than an employee will and yet you have the freedom to stop when you want, take a break, change direction or start a completely new enterprise.
4) Money
Working for you pays off in the end. If you are successful then working for yourself can often make you richer than working for someone else.
5) Giving back
Have you ever wanted to go the extra mile and been stopped by middle management or an unsympathetic boss? Well, no more; if you want to reach out and help someone or some project then no one is stopping you.
6) Purpose
Working for yourself adds purpose to your life. You are no longer stuck in the cycle of work, home, rest, work, home…and so on.etc. No matter what the business, you can make this a life purpose.
7) Self discovery
You will find out so much more about yourself when self-employed. Your strengths and weaknesses will come to the forefront of your experience and you can really discover who you are.
8) Healing
Sounds strange? Well, the writer found that self-employment brought healing from a troubled past. Removing the shackles of being an employee and embarking on a new venture brought, healing, purpose and satisfaction; no doctor could prescribe anything better!
9) Self sufficiency
You will always need someone, in some way. However, self-employment teaches a great lesson in self-sufficiency. You need to be motivated, inspired, and creative. You need to be the PR, the advertising department, human resources, payroll all in one. This expands you as an individual and makes you stronger and smarter.
10) You will have no boss!
Just in case you forget, this is the best part! There will be no boss, middle management or committee telling you what to do. Sure, you will meet obstacles in terms of people and situations, but at the end of the day, you are in charge; that is the best reason of all to become self-employed.
