That most famous of all vampires, Count Dracula is a good starting point when we look with a different light at the subject of vampires and vampirism. The tale is full of love, love lost, anger, rage and ultimately forgiveness and a homecoming. The subject is a wonderful topic for debate.
Vampirism itself is the taking of energy, or life force from the victim. It is thus using other’s power for one’s own needs and as the life force is drained, and then the victim is drained until death and final transformation. In many ways, this is the human condition, as we rely upon the self and others around us for our sustenance and for all our ‘nutritional’ needs.
This self-reliance is draining for the self and we can see the ravages of time on a body used to the stress and the pressure of taking care of life and business. The true transformative experience is finally when one surrenders to a higher power and then draws from the Source of all life.
This is not a Christian point of view, despite the title; it is in fact true no matter what faith or spirituality one follows. To rely on self is draining, to rely on Spiritual Source is empowering and benefits both sides.
This is more than merely being the effect of a Cause, it is actually one stepping into being the extension of a Cause and thus seeing and experiencing the extension of Source and of self.
At some level, we are all vampires, as we drain the planet’s resources, as we drain our neighborhood of resources and as we drain our selves of precious life force by giving our power away to others and by struggling for constant self-preservation.
That final act of love, in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, is enough for the transformative experience to occur and the ravages of hate and resentment to be finally lifted. As we forgive and as we let go, we also can experience this cleansing at a deep spiritual level. This then filters down into our physical existence and can improve our lives and heal our bodies.
So the next time we feel we need to call the shots or to drain precious life force from your surroundings, stop for a moment, look up and ask the universe to fill the hole that you are experiencing; that is when the real magic occurs.
