Natural Acid Reflux Remedy

The writer used to suffer from extreme heartburn and acid reflux, which caused burning in the chest, sleepless nights and daily discomfort. After the prescription of harsh medications, a decision was made to try a natural heartburn remedy.

Lemons are acidic, and yet when ingested they burn off and leave a highly alkaline residue; this alkaline residue can help with the symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn. By taking fresh lemon juice in a tall glass of warm water, the writer soon felt the benefits of this alkaline approach. For three days all acid forming foods where eliminated from the diet and the result was astonishing.

All the acid reflux, heartburn and that awful burning in the chest was eradicated and the shelf of expensive antacid medications was left untouched. After further research regarding the nature of the alkaline diet and the alleviating of disease, there came the decision to switch to this way of eating. Body aches, fatigue, headaches and many more where cleared up quickly by sticking to a regimen of emphasizing alkaline foods.

For those first three or four days, the alkaline foods featured 100 percent of diet. After the symptoms left, this was reduced to a ratio of 80/20; that is, 80 percent alkaline and 20 percent acidic. The initial heartburn and acid reflux disappeared quite quickly and after a few weeks of eating in this way energy levels improved as well as the disappearance of body aches and headaches.

The actual list of alkaline/acid foods is too long to mention here but the main alkaline foods were:

  • Millet
  • Quinoa
  • Figs
  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Lemon water (about 1tsp fresh lemon juice in warm water)

The acid foods include:

  • Meats
  • Dairy
  • Sugar
  • Wheat products

Again, this is a very simple list and more details can be found in this excellent book on the subject.

By sticking to this way of eating, all heartburn and acid reflux symptoms disappeared and overall wellbeing increased dramatically; the medications were never needed again. There was also the inclusion of organic apple cider vinegar into the diet. A teaspoon in a tall glass of warm water is a great tonic for overall wellbeing.

It is amazing how a simple dietary change can improve your entire life and it is amazing how much money is made by companies selling harsh antacids and heartburn remedies.

The only product this writer will now spend money on is fresh lemons!
