Driving Traffic to Your Website

Driving traffic to your website is all about content, website content that is useful and will fulfill a need in the reader. By approaching website traffic in this way, you will gradually build a useful and informative website that the readers will like and the search engines will love. Once you have a good quantity of quality posts or pages then you can start looking at traffic methods; it is not really worth it until you have at least thirty good posts or articles.

Firstly, make sure that you pages are nicely interlinked; this would involve good “related posts” links and links within the body of your articles pointing to similar resources within your site. While this is not directly affecting traffic, it will enable a search engine such as Google have a better idea as to the stricture of your site and can help get pages indexed quicker.

Social media is a great way to drive traffic to your website. Sites such as Facebook and twitter can bring you visitors and by having the link out there, you may get articles indexed quicker. Social bookmarking sites are another good source of traffic although they will generally give you traffic spikes when a new article is posted and this traffic may then fall away later on.

The ultimate driving force to generate website traffic is the search engine. If you can deliver an article or a post that ranks well on Google then you will have a good steady stream of traffic. Of course, this depends on your website niche; however, if you can write about a constantly popular subject and rank well, then you could potentially have a lifetime of traffic. Sitemaps will play an important role here as they do help your pages get indexed and organised by the search engine quicker. Depending upon how the sitemap is created, you can set a high priority for archives and older posts; this is important so that these older posts are still seen as relevant to the search engines. Again, as with the social bookmarking sites, you do not want a traffic spike and then a dip; you want a constant flow of relevant website traffic for as long as your website is active.

Driving traffic to your website is no longer about keyword stuffing and social media spamming; it is about generating useful content that is constantly needed and will provide help and bring benefit to the reader.
