Finding Inspiration

Inspiration is that moment when we suddenly rise above our blocks or beat procrastination; inspiration is the moment when the impossible seems possible and our goals seem attainable. Yet when it is not present, inspiration can be most elusive and the more that one looks for inspiration the harder it is to find it. Whether you are an artist, a writer or a businessperson developing an exciting new project, inspiration is the key to creating something new and different. So where can we look for inspiration when we need to get our self back in gear?

Mediation is a great way of finding inspiration, for as one is not thinking of the problem or the creative process a gap is formed for the inspiration to find us. Meditation and other similar practices distract us from other thoughts and this distraction is when inspiration can appear.

Seek the people who inspire you and read their books, go to their seminars or watch their videos. It is a sure thing that these people are not full of inspiration 100% of the time and so find out where they go for their great ideas and find out what they do to beat procrastination or idea blocks.

Doing something completely different to the activity at hand is a great method for finding inspiration. It is a bit like the distraction method highlighted above; whilst you are engaged in a completely different activity you may come across unexpected inspiration or ideas; you may also learn some new skills to further your inspiration.

Another great way to find inspiration is to do nothing; this really works as well. Simply do nothing, do not look for inspiration, do not worry about it just let it alone. Again, you are creating a gap that will be filled with something eventually; remember, nature abhors a vacuum so be open and yet be empty, this is when inspiration can strike.

The more one looks for inspiration, the harder it becomes to find it. It needs to be a natural and organic happening. Taking up poetry or creative writing can be a nice way of using different parts of the mind; the more parts of the mind you use, the more chance that you will find inspiration. It is also good to look at original goals and motivations for starting your project. Obviously, at the beginning you were inspired to do what you are doing so as you look back you may find further insights and inspiration to keep going.
