Support for W3C Recommendations and Section 508 Standards

During the development process, the web master – John Hewitt  - followed the W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 to ensure that the site would be accessible. The site uses valid HTML5 and CSS level 2.1, and it also meets the standards set in the Web-based applications section of the Section 508 standards.

Alt text

All images on this site are accompanied by brief alt text identifies the image or its function. If you are using a graphic browser, alt-text tags are visible only if the browser’s automatic image-loading feature is turned off.

Hyperlinks

All text hyperlinks are written so that they make sense when read out of context.

Blue, underlined text is used for navigation and within the articles. Visited links will turn black and hovering over links will turn them red.

Navigation aids

A link to the home page is available on each page.

Primary site navigation is located near the top of each page. Navigation through categories is located on the right hand side of the home page.

Scripting

Parts of the Article Outlook site utilize JavaScript. In every instance, device-independent event handlers have been implemented so that use of the mouse is not required. Additionally, all content and functionality are available even if scripting has been disabled in the browser.

Color Combinations

Foreground and background colours have been used that provide a good level of contrast and therefore easy to read. Throughout the site, colour is never used as the only way to convey information.
